How to avoid the penalties and fines when flying
Many of us have enjoyed the cheap flights craze since the early 2000’s when many budget airlines started business, with many flights costing under £100 it made travelling to places we normally wouldn’t very easy. The only trouble with these budget airlines is that you often have to play by their rules and so there may be a few processes and extra effort needed on our part.
One such requirement that has been made abundantly clear on television is being at the airport on time, not only that but make sure you are there early. Budget airlines, allowing us to embark on cheap holidays, seem to be working to even tighter schedules than other major airlines and so you really need to be on time or they could leave without you. As seen on TV even if you are a few minutes late there is little recourse so make sure you set off for the airport good and early, taking traffic and other delays into consideration.
One process that can help speed up your check in process is to check in online prior to your arrival. Many companies will require you to do this or you can receive a hefty fine in some cases as much as £90 each way. The airlines claim that this penalty is not to make money but to encourage customers to check in online, saving time at the check in gates. When you think that most people will have booked their flights online anyway there’s no excuse for not checking in online, especially as it saves you waiting in a queue when you get to the airport.
Another measure to be careful of is the weight of your baggage. This has long been a concern for holidaymakers when they get to the airport, whether they’ll get charged for their excess baggage. This can obviously be avoided by packing less, rolling your clothes to conserve space and trying to fit as much items as you can into your hand luggage. Remember to leave some room for gifts or things you buy on holiday too.
City breaks are very popular at the moment as people look to spend a long weekend somewhere. It may seem like we’re getting a raw deal and think that surely all we’re doing is making our lives harder and someone else’s job easier. But when you consider how expensive flying abroad used to be and that in order to save 100’s of pounds on the cost of your flights all you need to do is play by their rules then you’ll soon see the benefit of their time saving processes.
