Holidays to Turkey- Diverse and Fascinating
Turkey is a secular country so although 99% of the Turkish public are of the Islam faith, the country is surprisingly westernised with many of the leading shops found in the large cities such as the capital Ankara and Istanbul. Due to its location between Asia and Europe, Turkey has taken on more importance.
Turkey has many ties with the Western world (to the displeasure of some Turks) but still keep close ties with its neighbouring countries in Asia. It is this kind of culture and history that make Turkey such a fascinating country to visit and holidays in Turkey one to remember as you can experience so many cultures in one trip.
The Turkish public are as diverse as the country’s history. Many have adopted the western way of life by shopping at these large retailers where as many others have stuck to their routes and retain the belief that religion rules the way they live their lives.
If culture is what you are looking for then you don’t need to look further than Turkey. When the Ottoman Empire came to power many theatres, museums and opera houses were built and these are in great working order today. The plays and acts that are available here offer a fantastic interpretation of the Turkish history.
97% of the country is officially in Asia and is commonly known as Anatolia with the other 3% “European Turkey” being separated by the Sea of Marmara, The Bosphorous and the Dardanelles. Temperatures can reach around 30 degrees Celsius during the day in the summer but in the winter can be very cold and rainy (something UK visitors should be used to!)
If you are a sports fan, in particular football, then you can take a trip to one of the 3 top teams in the country. Visiting them in one day should not be a problem either as all 3 are located in Istanbul, Turkeys largest city. This often leads to problems between rival fans so if you do decide to visit one of the stadiums it is advisable not to go on a match day as you may get caught up in some potential violence.
The tourist areas of Marmaris rely heavily on tourists during the summer months which is why you are made to feel so welcome upon your arrival. All inclusive holidays are very popular and there are a fantastic range of top quality hotels for you to kick back and relax at night coupled with some great restaurants for you to enjoy some traditional Turkish cuisine. Flights are widely available to Turkey from all major UK airports. For some interesting culture mixed with a great holiday then visit Turkey.
