A world of choice with holidays in Greece
Greece has long been a tourist hotspot with its impressive ancient history and mythologies and tourist friendly group of islands as well as the mainland. Every year thousands of holiday makers choose a destination in Greece for their summer holidays and thanks to cheap flights going to and from the country it’s incredibly simple to get to Greece, even for late holiday deals.
Many people are drawn to Greece as a holiday destination as they want to see the ancient monuments such as the Acropolis and various ancient ruins that have been wonderfully preserved that tourists can see them and various artefacts that have been excavated by archaeologists over the years.
The main attraction though for the bulk of tourists is undoubtedly the Mediterranean environment and weather. In the UK we’re lucky if we get a solid week of sunny weather but nearer to the equator in the Mediterranean climate many Brits flock to the region to lounge on the beach or enjoy a day out at a water park.
The tourism trade is one of the primary industries especially on the islands; almost every holiday resort has plenty of restaurants and hotels only a stone’s throw away from a beach. These beaches usually have the familiar setup of plenty of sun beds, water sport activities like banana boating and peddalos.
The Greek food is very varied with a lot of famous sea food dishes like calamari and various shell fish. Most restaurants will know their customers well and have some form of familiar British food but when on holiday at any foreign country it’s advisable to at least give the local cuisine a try.
There are a number of popular islands for Greece holidays that have many people jetting off to them every year such as: Corfu, Crete, Zante and Cyprus to name a few. The islands are relatively small apart from Cyprus which behind Sardinia and Sicily is the largest Mediterranean island in size.
Even the smaller islands have adequate airports to handle the influx of British tourists that arrive every year and with the rising volume of tourists the number of flights has risen so you can get away not only during the summer, but also in the winter to escape from the cold weather back home.
This all adds up to make Greece an ideal cheap holidays destination where you can see historical artefacts as well as enjoy the traditional beach holiday in a country rich with tradition and culture.
