Where To Stay in St Andrews, Scotland
The home of golf, St Andrews, can be found in Scotland on the coast of Fife. The Royal and Ancient Golf Club has been in the town since 1754 and rules the game of golf worldwide, with the exceptions of Mexico and America. Every year the oldest of the four major golf championships takes place here, namely the Open Championship.
Although it’s not something you immediately associate with Scotland, the town also features a number of sandy beaches. When it comes to where to stay when visiting St Andrews regardless of whether your stay is for business, golf or relaxation you’ve got a wide choice available. 1. Ardgowan Hotel – This one is situated just 180 yards from St Andrews Old Course and the University, which are in the heart of the town. The building comprises two Georgian houses which have been joined together and were designed by the famous Scottish architect Sir William Playfair. You can select any of the 19 rooms and the hotel is set in its own gardens. All the food that is served both in the bar and restaurant is local produced and of the highest quality.
2. Links Hotel – This is located at 1 Golf Place and is not far from the famous 18th Hole on St Andrews Old Course. Dating back to 1824 this hotel has housed many of the world’s top golf players and was host to the very first golf tournaments that took place here. As well as being very close to the Old Course, you’re also very near the town’s university, cathedral and castle as well.
3. Old Course Hotel – This is the one that when you watch the Open Championship is the one that shows as you come to the 17th Hole. It actually looks over the “Road Hole” and has wonderful views of the West Sands and Fife coastline. Although this is for the hotel for the keen golfer there are lots of other things for the non-golfers in your party.
4. Russell Hotel – The Russell is a terraced house next to the Scores, looks out over St Andrews Bay and been themed in the Victorian style. When you choose this hotel, you’ll be very near the Old Course, you’ll be teeing off on the course within a couple minutes walk of the hotel but it is just as convenient for you to walk into the center of the town as well.
5. St Andrews Golf Hotel – This is again not far from the first tee of the Old Course and some of the rooms offer the guests views that look over St Andrews Links and Bay. In recent years, it’s been turned into a boutique hotel that one can relax in whilst you enjoy the top class facilities that St Andrews and the nearby area can offer you.
